    The 2012 Youth Career Expo will take place, March 6, 2012 at 8: 00 AM – 3: 00 PM at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.  This annual collaboration between the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, the Peninsula Council for Workforce Development, and the 6 Greater Peninsula School Districts, invites exhibitors, and sponsors to take part in this award winning event. Last year the Youth Career Expo won the Virginia Department of Education 2011 Creating Excellence Award and the 2012 event will continue to strive towards excellence.

    The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce announces the 2011 Chamber’s Distinguished Citizen Award Recipient.

     

    The Peninsula Chamber’s 2011 Distinguished Citizen Award recipient is Langley Federal Credit Union President/CEO Jean M. Yokum. Mrs. Yokum has been recognized for her outstanding leadership qualities and contribution to improving the Peninsula region and will be presented the Chamber’s Distinguished Citizen Award at this year’s Chamber Annual Meeting,Dec. 5, 2011, 11:30 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m. at the Marriott Newport News at City Center.

    The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce hosted its Executive Roundtable, Airline Update, featuring Ken Spirito, executive director of the Newport News/ Williamsburg International Airport, August 19, 2011 at the Chamber office.
     
     

    Ken Spirtio, executive director of the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, addressed an Executive Roundtable of over 45 business leaders and gave an update of the current position of the airport after the decision by Southwest Airlines, to have AirTran depart the airport after 16 years of service.

    AirTran, the Peninsula’s most popular air service provider seizing 43% of airport traffic with over 480,000 passengers, plans to leave the airport entirely by March 2012 as result of its merger with Southwest Airlines.

                       Peninsula Chamber endorses National Park designation of Fort Monroe.


    The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, representing the Virginia Peninsula’s business community’s interests, enthusiastically supports the creation of a Fort Monroe National Park and applauds the constructive approach put forth by the Virginia Congressional Delegation, Governor Robert McDonnell, Hampton’s Mayor Molly Joseph Ward, the Fort Monroe Authority, as well as our nation’s historic preservation and conservation communities.
