                                                                        Youth Career Expo

The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to building partnerships between local businesses and Peninsula high schools. Providing concrete real life work experiences for students will enrich their academic experience, engaging all students to graduate and make more informed coherent career choices after high school or college. The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce paves the way for our youth to contribute to the economic vitality of our region.

The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and the Peninsula Council for Workforce Development join forces to bring the Youth Career Expo to the Peninsula. The expo brings thousands of high school students from the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and the counties of York, Gloucester and James City to help prepare for life after high school “connecting today’s business with tomorrow’s workforce”.

Through various seminars, students learn workforce skills such as resume writing, interviewing and other educational seminars that are designed to empower Peninsula students and teach how to enhance existing skills to better prepare them for life after high school and enabling them to contribute to the economic vitality of our region. This event not only benefits the six participating school districts and students, but creates a partnership between Peninsula businesses and Peninsula high schools and students.

The Peninsula Chamber continues to strive towards an optimum business climate for current business professionals and future business professionals. Working with approaching high school graduates is the perfect opportunity to help sustain future economic stability and allow students to explore the career opportunities available on the Peninsula and the amount of education and skills needed to acquire these positions.
