Healthcare remains one of the Peninsula's largest economic drivers, and a major investment announced this spring will strengthen both regional healthcare capacity and the local economy. Bon Secours recently broke ground on a new $200 million patient tower at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News. The four-story, 144,000-square-foot expansion will significantly enhance emergency, maternity, neonatal, and critical care services while modernizing facilities for patients and families throughout the Virginia Peninsula. The project will double emergency department capacity, expand intensive care services, and improve access to care for one of the region's fastest-growing population centers. Construction is expected to be completed in 2028, representing one of the largest healthcare investments on the Peninsula in recent years.
