Public Policy

Mark Duncan, Chair

The Virginia Peninsula Chamber is a prominent and pro-active force in Public Policy, speaking on behalf of the region's businesses. We add value to our business community and to the community at large by advocating policy initiatives that are critical to economic growth, job creation and job security. The Virginia Peninsula Chamber has an aggressive Legislative Agenda as we advocate for business-friendly policies.

Shaping public policy is a complex and multifaceted process that involves the interplay of numerous individuals and interest groups competing and collaborating to influence policymakers to act in a particular way. We use a variety of tactics and tools to advance our members and community aims, including advocating positions publicly, attempting to educate supporters and opponents, mobilizing, lobbying and applying political pressure towards an issue that we support.

A single voice would not be heard, but the many voices represented by the Chamber ring loud in the halls of government. There are many opportunities to become involved through the various Public Policy Committee and the Business Political Action Committee, which generate power and momentum through the number and diversity of members that participate and commit.

Public Policy Initiatives:

VoterVOICE™ - The online system streamlines the process of getting members to communicate with public officials. In as little as one to two minutes, a voter is automatically matched to his/her public official(s), presented with key talking points, and can view the sample personal messages that will be sent out to the appropriate officials.

VoterVOICE™ software helps the Peninsula Chamber implement a smart, proactive approach to grassroots lobbying and political advocacy, overcoming the misconception that those types of activities have to be costly, difficult, and staff intensive. Using proven internet-based technologies, voterVOICE™, provides the Peninsula Chamber, and its members, the opportunity to easily and affordably manage governmental affairs by automatically matching constituents to their public officials at the local, state, and national levels.
