Jefferson Lab Breaks Ground on Data Center to Power the Future of Scientific Discovery

Newport News continues to strengthen its position as a hub for innovation and advanced research. Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility broke ground on the new Jefferson Lab Data Center, a facility that will serve as the future home of the Department of Energy's High Performance Data Facility. The approximately 30,000-square-foot center will support advanced computing, artificial intelligence, and scientific data services used by researchers across the nation. Backed by more than $49 million in state funding and serving as a cornerstone of Virginia's growing leadership in data science and AI, the project further reinforces Jefferson Lab's role as one of the Peninsula's most important research assets and a catalyst for high-tech economic growth.
