Virginia is Developing its 2026 Virginia Energy Plan

Virginia is developing its 2026 Virginia Energy Plan, a roadmap that will guide the Commonwealth's energy future for the next decade. The plan will influence everything from electricity generation and grid reliability to energy costs and emerging technologies such as nuclear, offshore wind, hydrogen, and solar.

As part of that process, the Virginia Department of Energy is asking businesses, organizations, and residents across the Commonwealth to share their perspectives through a brief public survey. Feedback will help inform the state's long-term energy strategy and the policies that support economic growth, infrastructure investment, and energy reliability.

For the Virginia Peninsula, this is an opportunity to ensure our region's priorities are heard. As home to major military installations, Newport News Shipbuilding, world-class research institutions, and a growing innovation ecosystem, reliable and affordable energy is critical to our continued success.

That perspective was well represented during the Hampton Roads regional listening session, held June 23 at the Secure Energy Future Center in Newport News, where business leaders, local governments, utilities, higher education, and economic development organizations discussed the region's energy opportunities and challenges.

The public survey remains open through September, and the final Virginia Energy Plan is expected to be released in October. We encourage Chamber members to participate and help ensure the Virginia Peninsula's voice is reflected in the Commonwealth's energy future.

The public input survey is online, open to all Virginians, and takes just a few minutes. Stakeholder listening sessions are also available for energy-related entities, and regional listening sessions are ongoing for community leaders.
