VPC Habitat House Update
By Virginia Staley, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula & Greater Williamsburg
Our fundraising efforts for the VPC Habitat House have been underway since May 1. The first of our fundraising efforts was a Square Foot Challenge. Since Habitat homes are 1,200 square feet, each square foot costs $105. The business that purchased the most square feet will receive the following recognition: their logo featured on Habitat’s website, on the build site sign, on social media posts during the building process and inclusion on future marketing materials. And the winner is…ITA International! Congratulations ITA International and thank you for your generous support!!!
Next up was our Wheelbarrow of Summer Fun raffle. This was a fun project as donations for the wheelbarrow came in daily increasing the value of the wheelbarrow to just over $2,000! The lucky winner was Pamela Kelley from Gaithersburg, MD. Kelley was visiting her granddaughter’s family in Newport News when she heard about our raffle and immediately purchased her tickets. She was thrilled to win and it looks like some of those items will be staying right here in Newport News! Thank you, Ms. Kelley, for supporting our fundraising efforts!
Many thanks to Coastal Fermentory Uptown and Downtown for hosting two “Drink a Pint for a Purpose” events held on Tuesday, May 27 and Wednesday, May 28. Ten percent of all sales and all tips were donated to the VPC Habitat House. Thanks to Coastal Fermentory, Seth Caddell, our celebrity bartenders, patrons and food trucks who supported these events and our fundraising efforts!
We’re off to a great start having raised $5,764 but, we still have a ways to go!
Our next fundraiser is a 50/50 raffle. This raffle will start on July 1 and commence on September 12 at Habitat’s 21st Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Who doesn’t love a 50/50 Cash Raffle?! And this fall Habitat will be hosting an after-hours Sip & Shop Event at our Newport News ReStore. More details to come! Stay up-to-date at habitatpgw.org/vpc-special-build/
The excitement is building!!!
