Press Release: Economic Forecast Mid-Year Breakfast

The Virginia Peninsula Chamber will host this annual event in partnership with ODU’s Strome College of Business. Economists from ODU’s Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy will deliver their midyear forecast on June 10, 2022, from 7:30 am to 9:30 am at the Holiday Inn Newport News-Hampton. Individual tickets and sponsorship packages can be purchased online HERE.

ODU Professors Dr. Vinod Agarwal and Dr. Bob McNab will present national, state, and
regional economic forecasts. In the national and Virginia presentation, Bob McNab will discuss the economic recovery and how consumers remain resilient in the face of economic shocks. He will examine what factors are driving price increases and how inflationary expectations are rising, which, combined with increasingly tight labor markets, pose a challenge to employers in the second half of 2022 and into 2023. Businesses and consumers should prepare for higher levels of economic uncertainty and the possibility of slower economic growth in an environment characterized by rising prices and interest rates.

Vinod Agarwal will deliver the Hampton Roads forecast and his presentation will include tourism and housing. The Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy in the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University undertakes a wide range of economic, demographic, transportation, and defense-oriented studies. Since 1999, the Dragas Center has produced influential State of the Region Reports for Hampton Roads.

ODU's Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy has been an independent explainer and forecaster of economic data here, in the Commonwealth and nationally, for more than 20 years.
